Course details:

The principal method of working in this course is group discussions based on extracts from a DVD which portrays incidents in the life of an international project team. An important resource is audio interviews with professionals working internationally. The discussions are based on interaction and sharing information. Additionally, you will study different country profiles and work with Best Practice files on running and participating in international projects

The course is based and structured around critical incidents in the life of an international project team:

  • Getting to know the team – building rapport and understanding
  • Roles – expectations of individual team members. Explore the issue of roles inside project teams. Identify best practices for defining and maintaining role definition in an international project.
  • Feedback – motivating and inspiring team members. The specific objectives are to gain cultural insights into giving and receiving feedback and to gain interpersonal insights.
  • Conflict – handling conflict between team members. Focus on the conflict between two members of the project team. Identify best practices for resolving conflict.   
  • Cooperation – working better together.

Each unit has different learning modules:

  • Video learning Tasks are based on one or two scenes in the life of an international project team.
  • Audio learning Tasks are based on two or three audio interviews with specialists working internationally

This course is designed to develop your personal intercultural competence. It aims to develop competence in three broad areas:

Understanding culture and its impact on behaviour in international teams.
Understanding yourself and other members of your international team.
Developing communication strategies and skills to get the best out of international teams.
